Drilled through 1/2" plate steel like it was nothing, and the M42 cobalt tips still look sharp after a dozen holes. Having the full range from 1-1/16" up to 1-1/2" in one case saved me a trip to the hardware store mid-project.

Bought these to open up some worn holes on my tractor's bucket pins and the cobalt tips cut through the hardened steel way easier than the cheap set I had before. Nice having all eight sizes in one case, though it's heavier than I expected.
